In
this study we will look at the thirteen verses of Daniel 12 and see some of
their spiritual implications as they relate to us today.
As
we consider these verses we must be assured that they are speaking to the time
in which we are presently living—the time known as the Great Tribulation (GT)
which occurs just prior to Christ’s physical return to the earth. We can know
this because of Christ’s affirmation thereof:
Mt 24:21 For then shall be great
tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor
ever shall be.
We see this similar language in Daniel 12:
1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the
great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of
trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same
time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall
be found written in the book.
Earlier in Matthew 24, Christ gave us some characteristics of this
GT:
Mt 24:15 When ye therefore shall
see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel
the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
And,
obediently following Christ’s instructions to read, we read in Daniel 12:
11 And from the time that
the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there
shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
So
we are assured that Daniel 12 is in fact concerned with the GT, the last
definitive period of time just before Christ returns. We will also see as we
develop the study that we are definitely living in the time of the GT and so
the spiritual implications of Dan 12 are speaking directly to us.
Now
we will begin our understanding of Daniel 12 as directed by Christ in Matt
24:15 (“whoso readeth, let him understand”) by
considering the opening verse which sets out the context of the GT for the
chapter and we have appended some spiritual commentary to get us off on a fast
start:
1 ¶ And at that time shall
Michael stand up, the great prince (Jesus Christ,
portrayed by Michael, arises from His seat at the Father’s right hand where He
had been sitting since His ascension but had stood up at the stoning of
Stephen. He arises to deliver His people and to bring judgment upon the
congregations) which standeth for the children (the
elect) of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as
never was since there was a nation even to that same time (The Great Tribulation, Mat 24:21, Mk 13:19) and at
that time thy people shall be delivered (the
elect are delivered from the judgment that the congregations are receiving from
God, Rev 18), every one (no exception) that shall
be found written in the book (their names
were written in the Lamb’s book of life from the foundation of the world, Rev
13:8,17:8
).
We commented
that Michael is portraying Jesus Christ and that Jesus is the great prince. The
verses below shown from the YLT confirm this truth:
Da 10:13 ‘And the head of the
kingdom of Persia is standing over-against me twenty and one days, and lo, Michael, first of the chief
heads, hath come in to help me, and I have remained there near the kings
of Persia;
Da 10:21 but I declare to thee that
which is noted down in the Writing of Truth, and there is not one strengthening
himself with me, concerning these, except Michael your head.
Da 12:1 ¶ ‘And at that time stand up
doth Michael, the great
head, who is standing up for the sons of thy people, and there hath been
a time of distress, such as hath not been since there hath been a nation till
that time, and at that time do thy people escape, every one who is found
written in the book.
Jude 1:9 yet Michael, the chief messenger, when, with
the devil contending, he was disputing about the body of Moses, did not dare to
bring up an evil-speaking judgment, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke thee!’
Jesus Christ
is both the chief messenger of the covenant and the very head of the body of
believers:
Mal 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord,
whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the
covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in
love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even
Christ:
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the
wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the
saviour of the body.
Therefore
Michael is just another of the names of Jesus Christ. In fact, the Hebrew for
the name Michael means “Who is like God”:

="who is like God"
Going back
to Daniel 12:1, we commented that Jesus Christ, (having been seated at the
Father’s right hand for over 1950 years), now stands up at the time of the
GT. The last instance in which Jesus
stood up was at the stoning of the Deacon Stephen. Stephen had been preaching
about the great tribulation that Jacob and his family went through in Canaan
which caused them to depart Canaan and seek refuge in
Acts 7: 11 Now there came a dearth
over all the
And, during
this preaching, Jesus was standing showing He was ready for taking action:
54 When they heard these
things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their
teeth. 55 But he (Stephen), being full of the Holy Ghost,
looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing
on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened,
and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
Note, this
time of coming into
So just as
Jesus (mirrored by Joseph) stood up to deliver Jacob and his family in 1877
B.C. out of the GT in Canaan (the corporate churches) and He stands up for the
preaching of the GT by Stephen, so it is that He also stands up for the final
delivering of His people in 1994 A.D. out of judgment of spiritual plagues on
the corporate churches during the final GT which began in 1988 A.D. We will expand upon this judgment as we make
further progress.
Next, we
look at Daniel 12 verses 2 and 3, and we’ll add comments once more:
2 And many of them that sleep
in the dust (YLT-the
multitude of those sleeping in the dust…) of the earth shall awake (the physical resurrection in those days after the
GT, John 5:28-29), some (the elect) to
everlasting life, and some (the unsaved) to shame and
everlasting contempt (--the eternal lake of fire,
Rev
20:11-15).
3 And they that be wise <07919> (the teachers or instructors amongst the elect) shall
shine (be illuminated with the
understanding of the gospel )
as the brightness of the firmament
(even as the firmament is exhaustive,
so is the spiritual understanding during this time); and they (general body of Christ at large) that turn
many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. {wise: or,
teachers}
We
commented above that the wise (Strongs# <07919>) are the teachers or instructors of the elect. This
finding is based firstly on the commentary given above in the Online Bible
(OLB)--“{wise: or, teachers}” which
indicates that the wise actually could have been translated teachers and then
secondly, the translation of this verse in the Young’s Literal Translation
(YLT) indicates the same:
Da 12:3 And those teaching do shine as the brightness
of the expanse, and those justifying the multitude as stars to the age and for
ever.
Additionally, we see this same idea expressed in the following KJV
verses:
2Ch 30:22 And Hezekiah spake
comfortably unto all the Levites that taught <07919> the good
knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days,
offering peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their
fathers.
Ps 32:8 I will instruct <07919> thee and
teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Pr 16:23 The heart of the wise
teacheth <07919> his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
Ne 9:20 Thou gavest also thy good
spirit to instruct <07919> them, and withheldest not thy manna from their
mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
Thus, the conclusion here is that it will be the teachers or instructors amongst
the elects who will first receive the spiritual understanding of the end times
from God via the Bible and then they in turn will pass it on to the general
body of Christ’s elects throughout the world via every communication means
possible and known to mankind. This principle of God appointing teachers in
specific areas of the ministry is further illustrated in Moses who for his
first forty years of life was raised as an Egyptian leader but this
worldly training did not qualify him to be a leader and teacher of God's people
evidenced by him taking the leadership upon himself by slaying the
Egyptian (Acts 7:22-29). God had to take him aside privately on the back sides
of the desert and retrain him for another forty years wherein he served as a
shepherd and then he was ready for leading and teaching the people of God as
God met him and called him at the wilderness of Sinai in the burning bush
incident (Acts 7:30-35). We
see the same of John the Baptist who God raised in the deserts training him by
His Spirit until He was ready for him to preach:
Luke 1: 67 ¶ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and
prophesied, saying,….
76 And thou (John the Baptist), child, shalt
be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the
Lord to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation
unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through
the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited
us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the
shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80 And the child (John the Baptist) grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the
deserts till the day of his shewing unto
We read the same also of Paul, who
after his salvation went immediately into Arabia (desert country) without
conferring with anyone and stayed there for some time (because of verse 23
below) before returning to Damascus and then to Jerusalem before embarking on the missionary trips:
Gal 1: 15 But when it pleased God, who
separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, 16 To
reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them
which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned
again unto Damascus. 18 Then after three years I went up to
And
lastly, we look at Jesus’ personally chosen apostles while He was on earth. He
selected and called them Himself and enlisted them in a time of service and
training conducted by Him personally for around three and a half years and then
He commissioned them at the end:
Matt
28: 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe
all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world. Amen.
The
general body of Christ’s elects throughout the world after receiving the
“end-time understanding” from the divinely selected “wise body of teachers”
will run with this message which will itself cause many to turn to
righteousness even as God directs:
Da 11:33 And they that understand <07919> (i.e, teach) among the people shall
instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity,
and by spoil, many days (i.e.
spiritually, the days of the GT).
Hab 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and
said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that
readeth it.
Ga 2:2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated
unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them
which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
But
going back to Daniel 12:3, there is also another precious truth being taught
here:
Da 12:3 And they that be wise
shall shine as the brightness <02096> of the
firmament <07549>; and they that turn many to righteousness as
the stars for ever and ever. {wise: or, teachers}
We
find that the Strongs number “<02096>”
translated “brightness” is found in only one other place in the Bible where it
refers to the very luminance of Christ Himself in a passage illustrating the
time of the GT, the very time that Dan 12 is involved with:
Eze 8:2 Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the
appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and
from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness <02096>, as the
colour of amber.
The significant
finding then from looking at Ezekiel 8:2 is that it confirms that the body of
divinely selected wise teachers of end-time understanding received their illumination
(understanding) directly from Christ Himself and are shadows of the light of
heaven (portraying Christ Himself who is the substance) which God commanded to shed light
(understanding of the Bible)
upon the general body of the elect throughout the whole earth especially with
end-time understanding during the season and days of the GT as part of the new
covenant (Heb 8:8-10) when the Bible is being unsealed:
Ge 1:14 And God said, Let there be
lights in the firmament <07549> of the heaven to divide the
day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days,
and years: Ge 1:15 And let them be for lights
in the firmament <07549> of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and
it was so….
Ge 1:17 And God set them in the firmament
<07549> of the heaven to give light upon the earth,…
Ps 119:130 The entrance of thy words
giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Next, we move on
to the first half of verse 4 of Daniel 12. Here, we see that there is a
concealment of the understanding of prophecy from the time that it was given to
Daniel in 554 B.C. (See Biblical
Calendar—page 25) until the end times:
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up
the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall
run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
This concealment
of truth is embellished further by the YLT:
Da 12:4 And thou, O Daniel, hide
the things, and seal the book till the time of the end, many do go to and fro,
and knowledge is multiplied.’
So we see
that it was God’s good pleasure to hide from His people, living prior to the
end of time, the spiritual understanding of Daniel 12 until the time of the end
then He would reveal it to the teachers among the elect for general
dissemination among the body of elect! This same truth is taught again later in
this same chapter of Daniel 12 in verse 9:
Da 12:9 And he said, Go thy way,
Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
This hiding
of the end-time spiritual understanding of passages is seen elsewhere in God’
Word:
Da 8:26 And the vision of the
evening and the morning (i.e., the
2300 literal days of the abomination of desolation) which was
told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be
for many days.
Re 10:4 And when the seven thunders
had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven
saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and
write them not.
Now let us consider the second half of verse 4: “many shall run to and fro <07751>, and knowledge shall be increased.”
The “many” that
shall run to and fro at the time of the end are the unsaved (unelected) members
of congregations during the GT, they will not come to end-time understanding as
the judgment of God is upon them and they are in a spiritual famine and have
been given cleanness of teeth because there is no man (Jesus Christ) that is
present to bring them truth:
Am 8: 11 ¶ Behold, the days come,
saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of
bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12 And they shall wander from
sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro <07751> to seek the
word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
Am 4:6 And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your
cities (
Jer 5:1 Run ye to and fro <07751> through the
streets of
However,
while this spiritual famine is occurring within the churches we are also told
that “knowledge shall be increased”; and from what we have seen
thus far this multiplying of knowledge at the end time is amongst the teachers
for the benefit of the general body of elects.
Continuing
in the next verse of Daniel 12, we read:
5 ¶ Then I Daniel looked, and,
behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river <02975>, and the
other on that side of the bank of the river <02975>.
We see that the river being spoken of is really a flood as the YLT
shows us:
5 ¶ And I have looked—I,
Daniel—and lo, two others are standing, one here at the edge of the flood, and
one there at the edge of the flood,
Also, we see
that river is also translated flood in the KJV and where it is so translated
the context is that of judgment:
Am 8:8 Shall not the land tremble
for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up
wholly as a flood <02975>; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by
the flood of
Am 9:5 And the Lord GOD of hosts is
he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood <02975>; and shall
be drowned, as by the flood <02975> of
Note that
Amos 8:8 above is in the same general context of judgment as Amos 8:11-12 which
was discussed earlier as the judgment occurring in the churches. So verse 5 of
Daniel 12 is again set in the context of the judgment GT at the end of time and
the two messengers in the vision are at the very extremities (edges) of the
judgment to oversee it.
Then in Daniel
12 verse 6 we read that there is a third person and He is upon (above) the
flood itself, showing His intimate involvement and direct supervision of the
judgment that is under His feet:
6 And one said to the
man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river <02975>, How long shall
it be to the end of these wonders <06382>? {upon…: or,
from above}
Who therefore is this third man? It is the Lord Jesus Christ as we
see below:
Dan 10: 5 Then I lifted up mine eyes,
and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
{a…: Heb. one man} 6 His body also was like the beryl, and
his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished
brass, and the
voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
Re 1:13 And in the midst of the
seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot,
and girt about the paps
with a golden girdle. 14 His head and his hairs were
white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace;
and his voice as the sound
of many waters.
So we know
this man to be the Lord Jesus Christ and He being clothed in linen is pointing
to His role as the Righteous Judge even as linen typifies the righteousness of
God given to the saints:
Re 19:8 And to her was granted
that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and
white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to
be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
We see
further that when Christ is dressed in linen it is definitely time for His
righteous judgment upon the churches:
Ezk 9: 1 ¶ He cried also in mine ears
with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw
near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand. 2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the
higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in
his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s
inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar. 3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up
from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called
to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer’s inkhorn by his
side; 4 And the LORD said unto him,
Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a
mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the
abominations that be done in the midst thereof. 5 ¶ And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go
ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have
ye pity: 6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids,
and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is
the mark; and begin at my
sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before
the house.
In the
second part of verse 6, we see the question asked of Jesus Christ:
How long shall
it be to the end of these wonders <06382>?
The
spiritual events of judgment upon the churches occurring during the GT are
wonders from God Himself:
Ex 15:11 Who is like unto
thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness,
fearful in praises, doing wonders <06382>? {gods: or,
mighty ones?}
Ps 77:11 I will remember the works
of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders <06382> of old.
Ps 77:14 Thou art the God
that doest wonders <06382>: thou hast declared thy strength among the
people.
And Jesus
gives the response to the question in verse 7:
7 And I heard the man clothed
in linen, which was upon the waters of the river <02975>, when he held
up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth
for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he
shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things
shall be finished. {a time…: or, part}
Jesus is swearing by God and is entitled to do so because He is
very God:
Rev 10: 5 And the angel (“ang'-el-os”--Messenger--Jesus Christ) which I
saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, 6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and
ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and
the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein,
that there should be time no longer:
By swearing
by God, there is no higher authority for Jesus’ response:
Heb 6:13 For when God made promise
to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
So we know
absolutely that the timing given in Dan 12:7 is guaranteed by God Himself:
“that it
shall be for a time <04150>, times <04150>, and an
half <02677>”
And it also
gives us the formula even to the very end of time when all the things discussed
earlier in Daniel 12 will be finished thereby agreeing with what we found in
Rev 10:5-6 that there should be time no longer. The Hebrew of “time” or its
plural “times” (Strongs # <04150>) suggests a divinely
appointed solemn time:
Jer 8:7 Yea, the stork in the
heaven knoweth her appointed times <04150>; and the
turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their
coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.
Ex 9:5 And the LORD appointed a
set time <04150>, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing
in the land. 6 And the LORD did that thing
on the morrow, and all the cattle of
Da 8:19 And he said, Behold, I
will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at
the time appointed <04150> the end shall be.
But we dealt
only with the first portion (“time” and “times”) of the formula in Dan 12:7:
“that it
shall be for a time, times, and an half <02677>”
Now we will
look at the “half”. We find that the etymology of the Hebrew of “half” (Strong
# <02677>) means to divide or cut into two parts. So what
God is saying here is that after the “times” there is still a part period (not
a whole period, but a shortened period or stub period) to the very end of time.
So that completes this formula, all we need is to determine the values to fit
in the formula and we will have the answer to the timing of the end of these
wonders which will also be the completion of the scattering of the power of the
holy people as shown below in the YLT:
7 And I hear the one clothed
in linen, who is upon the waters of the flood, and he doth lift up his
right hand and his left unto the heavens, and sweareth by Him who is living to
the age, that, ‘After a time, times, and a half, and at the completion of the scattering of the power <03027>
of the holy people, finished are all these.’
But what is
this “scattering of the power of the holy people”? Well, before getting into
it, please note that there is not a “scattering of the holy people” rather it
is a scattering of their “power”, not a literal or spiritual scattering of
persons upon the earth. Now who are the holy people?
De 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the
LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto
himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
De 14:2 For thou art an holy people unto the
LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto
himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
So we
understand the holy people are the truly saved (the elect) as depicted
externally by the nation of
Now what is
the “power” of the elect that will be scattered? We find that Hebrew of “power”
is:
03027 dy yad yawd
And its
usage is shown below:
AV-hand 1359, by 44, consecrate + 04390 14, him 14,
power 12, them 11, places 8, tenons 6, thee 6, coast 6, side 5, misc 130; 1615
1) hand
1a) hand (of man)
1b) strength, power (fig.)
1c) side (of land), part, portion (metaph.) (fig.)
1d) (various special, technical senses)
So
predominantly the word is literally translated “hand” but figuratively “power”
is used. So, it is the figurative sense that is being conveyed in Daniel 12:7.
So let us
look a bit further at the “power” of the elect. From the verses below, we will
see that the “power” of the holy people is the very Word of God, the gospel:
1Th 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you
in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much
assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
2Cor 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid
to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this
world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of
Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For we preach not ourselves,
but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness,
hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of
the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. {hath: Gr. is he who hath}
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that
the excellency of the power
may be of God, and not of us.
Re 11:6 These have power to shut
heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters
to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as
they will.
So then the
period of “time, times, and a half” will end at the completion of the gospel!
This finding comports very well with Jesus’ statement:
Mt 24:14 And this gospel of the
kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all
nations; and then shall the end come.
Now when is
the “power of the holy people” completely scattered or in other words when is
the end of the declaration of the gospel on this earth? It is the time when God
will judge His people:
De 32:36 For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent
himself for his servants, when
he seeth that their power <03027> is gone, and there is none shut up,
or left. {power: Heb. hand}
It is also the
time that the Great Tribulation (in which the three and a half days of 84 hours
occurs portraying the larger 8400 days or 23 years of the GT) ends:
Rev 11: 6 These have power to shut
heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over
waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often

nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not
suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon
the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another;
because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life
from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell
upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great
voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to
heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake
were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave
glory to the God of heaven. {of men: Gr. names of men}
Now when we
do our substitution for “time” below into our formula we will get the possible
end of the gospel, the power of the holy people in terms of in our Gregorian
calendar!
Next in
Daniel 12, we read that Daniel heard this response but did not understand what
it meant and asked for further clarification as to the very end of the part
period (that is what the Hebrew of “end” [Strongs #<0319>]
signifies—the hindermost of the part):
8 And I heard, but I
understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end <0319> of these things?

Verse 9 shows
the response that Daniel received:
9 And he said, Go thy way,
Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
So we see
that the answers that Daniel is seeking are not only closed up (shut up) but
they are also sealed by God until the time of the end. Here, in verse 9, the
Hebrew word for “end” is different from that in verse 8. This “end” is simply
pointing to a general period of time in the closing stages of the history of
this world but not to the very hindermost part of history.
Furthermore in the next verse, we are
told, around this general time of the closing stage of history, that:
10 Many shall be purified, and
made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked
shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
The “many” (i.e., multitude) that are
purified, made white, and tried (i.e., refined) are the elect that come out of
the Great Tribulation (commented on in verse 3 above):
Re 7:9 After this I beheld, and,
lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people,
and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white
robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation
to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels stood round about the
throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the
throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom,
and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for
ever and ever. Amen. 13 ¶ And one of the elders
answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and
whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir,
thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed
their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
On the other hand while the final elect
are coming out of the GT during this last closing stage of earth’s history, we
find from the last portion of verse 10, that those who are wicked (unrighteous
unsaved-see Gen 18:23-25, where the Hebrew of “wicked” is the same as in this
verse) will do according to their true nature and none of these will understand
the things of the end times that will be revealed only to the wise:
but the
wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise
<07919> shall understand.
Again, as shown in the
commentary on verse 3 above, the wise are the elect teachers specially endowed
by God, the Holy Spirit, with understanding of the end times events and
associated timing for the general benefit of all the elect.
Next, we are
given one of the time clues and its starting and ending events that we can
substitute into the formula given in verse 7:
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
The YLT rendition
of the above verse gives a bit more insight as to what is being indicated:
11 and from the time of the
turning aside of the perpetual sacrifice, and to the giving out of the
desolating abomination, are days a thousand, two hundred, and ninety.
We will take
care of the substitution in the formula after we have covered the understanding
of the passage and have solidly identified the starting point. For now let us
see what is in view in this verse.
The following verses
will assist us to more fully understand of what God is indicating in verse 11
by the word “daily <08548>”:
Ex 25:30 And thou shalt set upon
the table shewbread before
me alway <08548>.
The showbread
upon the table is a spiritual portrait of the true gospel (including that
portion having to do with the end time) being made open and plain for
understanding only by the wise (represented by the priests who were the only
ones who could minister daily in the tabernacle) during the end time. The
Hebrew word for “daily” is also translated “always”:
Ex 27:20 And thou shalt command the children of
Here, the light
from the lamp is a spiritual synonym for the true gospel which is being sent
forth continuously especially in the end times even as the following passages
reinforce:
Ex 28:29 And Aaron shall bear the names of
the children of
2Ch 2:4 Behold, I build an house (i.e.,
temple) to the name of the LORD my
God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet
incense, and for the
continual <08548> shewbread, and for the burnt offerings
morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn
feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to
We are therefore
finding that the “daily” or “perpetual” refers to the eternal gospel being sent
forth on behalf of the elect whose names are written upon Christ’s heart,
having been the ones for which He paid the price of their judgment as pictured
by the breast plate of judgment upon Aaron’s (the High Priest) heart and they
are the ones that are comprising the house that is built to the name of the
Lord.
So now we are
equipped to do the substitution in the formula. We know that in verse 11, the
length of “time” is 1290 days. If these are literal days then “time” would be
just over three and a half years and we do not find 1290 days featured as such
in the Biblical Calendar. However, we find that God equates a day as a year
when His people has breached His promises by sinning:
Nu 14:34 After the number of the
days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye
bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of
promise. {breach…: or, altering of my purpose}
Eze 4:6 And when thou hast
accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the
iniquity of the house of
And so 1290 days equates to 1290 years when God is bringing judgment on His corporate body of people which is what we find from the language of both verse 7 and verse 11:
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
11 And from the time that
the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh
desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. {the abomination: Heb. to set up
the abomination} {maketh…: or, astonisheth}
Returning to the
earlier part of this study, we stated that the start of the 1290 days (1290
years) was in 1877 BC when Jacob and his family left the
So we have done
our first substitution for “time”, next we have to deal with “times” which is
“time” duplicated or 1290 years X 2 = 2580 years. Going from where “time” ended
in 587 BC and coming forward 2580 years we land on 1994 AD (there being no year
zero at the changing from BC to AD, so we have to add the BC years to the AD
years and subtract 1)! What was so significant about 1994 AD? Well, that was the
year that the 2300 days of Daniel 8 ended and was also when the abomination of
desolation was spiritually established through all corporate churches and the
power of the holy people scattered! For further details on these events, it is
suggested that you read “Spiritual
Synopsis of the Parable of the Ten Virgins”.
Now that we have
seen that “time” and “times” brings us to 1994 AD, we still have the “half” to
deal with. We saw earlier that this “half” was actually a stub period of time
at the end of time and would therefore commence in 1994 when “times” ended.
From all that I have discovered about this stub period it covers the time when
many of the elect have left the churches (see “Why
I no longer attend church”) which have become apostate and are under the
judgment of God for their breach against Him and His Word. During this time the
elect are out in the world sending forth the true gospel in whatever means
possible and are trimming their lamps and preparing for the return of Christ as
covered in the parable of the ten virgins study. Again, this scenario fits well
spiritually with that of Jacob and his family (illustrating the elects) leaving
Canaan (portraying the churches) at the command of God and coming into Egypt
(the world) under the care of Joseph (depicting Jesus Christ) who will oversee
their future well being while in Egypt even as Christ is presently directing
and overseeing the activities and well being of all His elects in the world.
Now Jacob lived 17 years in
Ge 47:28 And Jacob lived in the
And so it is
anticipated that the stub period will also be 17 years and thereby ending in
2011 AD which happens to be the 7000th anniversary of the flood of
Noah and which is developed further in the study of the parable of the ten
virgins!
Next we move on
to verse 12 of Daniel 12:
12 Blessed is he that
waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
The phrase
“Blessed is he” could only have reference to Jesus Christ as He is the blessed
One of the Father as shown on His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm
Sunday, 33 AD:
Mt 21:9 And the multitudes that
went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is
he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
This verse is
therefore a big clue as to when we should expect to see the 1335 days of Daniel
12 verse 12 showing up in the calendar. And indeed, if we go from the Feast
(Blowing) of Trumpets (Memorial of Shouting) (Ethanim 1—1st day of
the seventh month) on Tuesday, September 27, 29AD (Julian dating and the year
that Jesus was baptized some time earlier in the summer—See “Was
there a 1335 days earthly ministry of Christ?”) to the Day of Pentecost on
Sunday, May 24, 33AD (see Biblical
Calendar--page 26) when Christ poured out His Holy Spirit on the new
testament church we get exactly 1335 days exclusively covering the ending
portion of Jesus’ earthly ministry at His first coming!
However, after
Palm Sunday in 33 AD and before His crucifixion later in that week on the
Friday, Jesus makes a stark prophecy that at His return at the end of time in
judgment (the context of Daniel 12:12), the people of the churches (Jerusalem)
will once again refer to Him as the blessed one who comes in the name of the
Lord:
Mt 23: 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou
that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often
would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her
chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me
henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is
he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Notice also, it
will be a time when the churches are desolate (verse 38). But this prophecy is
also an indication to us that there will once more be another 1335 days at the
very end of time and then Christ, the Blessed One will make his literal
appearance at the end thereof even as the Holy Spirit made His literal
appearance at Pentecost in 33 AD in visible form as shown in Acts 2!
But how can we
figure out the 1335 days at the very end of time? Well, we know the stub period
ends in 2011 AD so that is the year the 1335 days ends. So it means that the
1335 days begins approximately 4 years earlier than 2011 AD and so it begins in
2007 AD. And as we saw in the first coming of Christ, the 1335 days period
began on a Feast day on September 27th and when we look at the
Jewish Calendar for 2007, startlingly, we find that the Feast of Tabernacles
(Succoth or Sukkot) starts on the evening of Wednesday, September 26th,
such the first day of Tabernacles runs from the evening of the 26th
through the evening of the 27th
with September 27 being the first full day of the feast and is shown on
the Perpetual Hebrew Calendar (click the “Today” button
first then chose the date)
below as the 27th.
If calendar does
not show please click here: Hebrew
Calendar for September 2007
Now when we go
1335 days from the evening of Wednesday, September 26, 2007 (exactly 1978 years
to the very date from the beginning of the first 1335 days; 1978 = 23[judgment]
x 2 [on the churches] x 43 [after the exodus of the elect-430 years]) we land
on Sunday, May 22, 2011, the very date and day of the week 1978 years earlier
that Pentecost occurred on May 22, 33 AD (Gregorian dating but Julian was May
24th) and the Holy Spirit made His visible appearance! Alas, but May
22, 2011 is not a renowned Biblical Jewish feast day:
If calendar does
not show please click here: Hebrew
Calendar for May 2011
However, it is
the day after the 17th day of the 2nd month (Iyyar) of
the Jewish Calendar and this 17th day of the 2nd month
has supreme significance as this is the day at the very end of which the world
judgment flood of Noah commenced exactly 7000 years earlier in 4990 BC (see Biblical
Calendar-page 10)! So that the 18th day of the 2nd
month in 4990 BC was the first full day of the Flood!
Thus the 1335
days of Daniel 12:12 ending on the 18th day of the 2nd
month of the Jewish Calendar is profoundly significant and could indicate that
even as the 17th day of the 2nd month ends that evening
on May 21, 2011 and the 18th day commences, Jesus Christ could very literally
appear as the Blessed One who patiently waits and comes in the Name of The Lord
to exact judgment on the unsaved world and bring deliverance to the saved thus
completely fulfilling Daniel 12:12 at the very end of time with the last 1335
days of His second earthly ministry being the very end of His more extended
ministry on behalf of earth’s elects during the 17 years commencing from the
Feast of Trumpets in 1994 AD! This earnest patience in waiting by our Lord is
better expressed in the YLT rendition of Daniel 12:12:
12 O the blessedness of him who is waiting
earnestly, and doth come to the days, a thousand, three hundred, thirty and
five.
The subject of
the 7000 years from the flood to 2011 AD is covered more fully in the following
studies:
“The
length of the Day of the Lord”
“Spiritual
synopsis of the parable of the ten virgins”
“THE
MOST FORMIDABLE THREAT TO THE PROCLAMATION OF 2011”
And you are
strongly encouraged to read these studies.
But for now, we
will move on to the final verse of Daniel 12:
13 But go thou thy way till
the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot <01486>
at the end of the days.
In verse 13, the
Hebrew word for “lot” signifies “inheritance” as seen in the following
passages:
Ps 16:5 The LORD is the
portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot <01486>. {of mine…:
Heb. of my part}
Nu 26:55 Notwithstanding the land
shall be divided by lot <01486>: according to the names of
the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit.
Thus in verse
13, Daniel is instructed to continue in his way (the lifestyle of an obedient
child of God) until the end of time before which he shall rest (that is,
physically die) and then he will stand (resurrect) in his lot (inheritance) at
the end of time. So we can expect the literal resurrection of the saved that
have died in time and their receiving of their inheritance (their eternal and
glorified spiritual bodies suitable for habitation with God in the new heaven
and new earth) jointly with those saved but which have not physically died
sometime after Christ returns which could occur in 2011 AD!
The End
